Santha Press - The Red Herring

I am interested in the manmade nature of this Island and what it symbolises. Europeans' compulsion to conquer, colonise and develop, produced devastating outcomes for what was here before their arrival, creating a blip of dead land, wrenched from the riverbank, surrounded by toxic effluent. The island's transformation in to an oasis, nurtured back to life by those committed to its restoration, and the vision of artists responding to the landscape, offers hope in a world that is teetering on the brink of self-destruction. I love working on Scenes on the Yarra. Its focus on history, environment, place and creativity offers me time to reflect and celebrate what is and can be.
