Shari Boyanton - Marooned/Eggs
My piece is about the isolation of being on an Island. Islands are alone and separate from other islands and the mainland. The yearning to escape from an Island is familiar feeling to me, as I frequently travel across the Sea to explore new lands- neglecting to appreciate and explore my own Island.
The River acts to connect places and people but is also a barrier.
A recent fascination with eggs has seen shells pile onto every flat surface of my home. Eggs symbolise new beginnings, fragility and fertility. Each egg is uniquely shaped and differently textured, and curved, making for a challenging canvas on which to paint. The site where ‘The Eggs’ are placed was chosen for it’s feeling of home or a nest.
