Polly Christy
Polly Christie has been the musical director of fourteen choirs in metropolitan Melbourne and led workshops at festivals around Australia. She is an experienced singer, solo performer and recording artist (Lothlorian, Magenta and Resonance Choir) and held Artistic Director positions at festivals and special events. She held the Artistic Director role for The City of Darebin Carols by Candlelight event for 5 years where she conducted 100 singers and the forty- piece brass band, performed and co coordinated the event. She has a bachelor of Music with honours and completed a thesis titled “The roles and contributions female choral conductors play in contemporary Victoria”. She is currently Musical Director of the Pollyphonics Choir in Woodend and she also performs with her partner Andy Rigby and the Kwela Swingsters, a 7 piece Swing band. www.pollychristie.com Malcolm Cormack
During the 1970's Malcolm was a Co-Director of Turtle Video, a pioneering venture in community televion in Melbourne's west. He has since lived on the edge of Yarra Junction in the Upper Yarra Valley. Malcolm has a sense of having always lived on the edge, at the overlap -city/rural, secular/sacred, tradition/innovation, words/pictures. Partner in a graphic design/signpainting practice directed to small business in the region. I have been an artist all my life.......exhibitions....public art ,from painted mosaic murals to ferro cement sculptures... just completed the new entrance sculpture to Werribee Open Range Zoo ,9 large ferro cement animal guardians. I also run workshops for all ages ,in mosaics, ferro cement ,painting , ephemeral....and lots more . I illustrate.... ....design and create installations for large events.......my home...still finishing my largest artwork yet..... In the last several years I have branched out into music performance, direction and teaching, as well as tiny house building projects. 1997-2000 Commercial sculpture – e.g. Underwater world, Lord of the Rings 2001-2005 Apprenticeship with Environmental artist Chris Booth (NZ) 2005-present Music projects – performed in various world music ensembles playing clarinet and saxophone, including at Woodford Folk Festival, Brisbane Multicultural festival, Brisbane Powerhouse, Canberra Multicultural Festival. My creative work is inspired by ecological processes and the deeper relationships between humanity and wild nature. I am a Melbourne based designer specialising and in Props, Sets and Puppets after graduating from VCA in 2008. I have a great passion for puppet making after spending time in New York making puppets with Phantom Limb Puppetry Company. My experience extends to working with children, and I am currently completing a Cert3- Childrens Services and I work at Kinglake Ranges Wilderness Camp and after school care at Ascot Vale West Primary School. I have designed and art directed various theatre and film pieces, from music video for Kimbra, to musicals such as the Boy from Oz and Grease. To small independent dramas for festivals such as the next wave and fringe festival. I have also worked on many larger scale festivals my most challenging and satisfying was co designing for the MONA FOMA Festival last year. Hannah Koch
I'm a student studying Design and Acting in Wagga Wagga at Charles Sturt University, but I spend most of my spare time in Melbourne. My core degree is Acting, however since starting the course I have found design and am discovering a passion for set and costume in particular. I look forward to furthering my experience in these areas. Simon Oats Since 2004, Simon has worked as a freelance storyteller in schools, private homes, Arts centres and in open air spaces. From 2006 to 2007 he developed and delivered a storytelling incursion program for Victorian schools entitled Intercultural Connections through Story, co-funded by the Federal Government, Myer Foundation, Pratt Foundation and Ian Potter Foundation. He is the Author of Storytelling for Intercultural Connections –A handbook for Schools (2010). In 2008, he wrote, composed and performed ‘Orpheus in the Underworld’’ a storytelling through narrative and song. Orpheus premiered at the Melbourne Fringe Festival 2008. It has had numerous subsequent theatrical seasons and other performances. I graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts, Bachelor of Production –Design (Hons), and further studied sculpture and spatial practice. I have participated in workshops at the Prague Quadrennial- Czech Republic with Jean Guy La Cat, and then with Louise Anne Wilson exploring site-specific performance and designer taking on the performers role. Both of these opportunities have left a profound influence on my work. One of my most notable achievements is Scenes on the Yarra, a series of works along the Yarra River. These events have been very successful in Warburton, Yarra Glen and Warrandyte. Other works include the set design for The Doll House, directed by Daniel Schlusser as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival -Fortyfive Downstairs. I have also designed sets and costumes for; National Theatre Drama School, director Andrew Gillbert- Blue Remembered Hills, Guild Theatre, director Susie Dee Attempts on her Life, VCA Drama School, director John Bolton, The Masque of the Red. As well as designs for Black Apple Theatre Company, Short and Sweet and NICA. I have been contracted by several Environmental Groups and Corporate bodies to run workshops with children and adults running Nature Play Workshops. I enjoy researching and building my arts practice, with a recent artist residency at Montsalvat and designs for Q44 Theatre Company and Artists Collective. www.jeminahreidy.com |
